We too saw a great improvement over last week when we were there. There was eye movement under his lids that was not there last week. Swelling was definately down. Glad to hear he opened his eye Monday night for a while. Jean, our thoughts and prayers are with you both, hang in there!

Kara, Kirsten and I swung by for a bit this afternoon to see Greg.
It took us a little bit of walking around and asking folks where to go to find the room. For those of you that haven't been, park in the garage closest to the old mill that's on the other side of the river from the hospital. Cross the little walkway and enter the hospital. There are two banks of elevators (East and West). You want the elevators that are on the far right (West). They serve the rooms that are 930-950 (or something similar). Take them to the 9th floor and when you get off, turn right off the elevator and then an immediate left. Walk past the little waiting area, and hang a right at the first hallway. It will make another 90 degree right turn and then branch off to the left. (There will be a bank of "staff only elevators here). Take the hallway to the left back to the critical care area (you walk down the hall past a bunch of windows that overlook the little atrium area between buildings). At the end, there is a set of double doors with a phone. Dial the top extension number and let the nurse that answers that you are there to see Greg. They didn't ask for any sort of password when we visited today. Once you get through the doors, you can go straight back a little ways (past the first nurses desk on the left). His room is 973. We spent some time reading "odd news" and talking to Greg today. After we started talking and holding his hand, his breathing and heart rate both increased, and he fluttered his eyelids once or twice. He has good color. I'm sure that additional visitors are appreciated by both him and Jean, so if you can, please find some time to go visit, even if for only a few minutes! ~Josh |

Happy Friday everyone!
I spoke with Jean last night on the phone. She said that Roanoke Memorial has moved Greg to room 1204- You do not need an access code any longer- He continues to improve by opening his eyes more frequently. Jean, Elaine, Richard and Jim Thompson recently went to visit Greg and brought a power drill into the room as a familiar sound for Greg to hear. Jean also brought in a recording of Gregs dog barking- Although Greg has not "woken up" as it were, please keep him in your thoughts, prayers and discussions. The raffle is going well too! Thanks to all who are selling or have purchased or donated to this cause! |

Edna spoke with Jean Monday and she is requesting that anyone that visits Greg to please be mindful and wear gloves and mask upon entering the room. You may have to inquire with the nursing staff prior to entering. It appears that Greg has developed several bed sores and as a precaution, Jean would like folks to adhear to this request- Thanks

Update on Greg-
I spoke with Jean last night (Wednesday 3/5/08) She told me that Greg has been moved to a care center in South Boston, VA- His sister has been in communication with Jean about the move and Greg's condition- She stated that Greg was resting in comfort and the transition went smoothly- His sister was impressed with the facility and the care that has been given to Greg thus far at the new place. Jean is in very good spirits and is relieved to know how good Greg is being taken care of. If you would like further details about Greg or want to know how Jean is doing, feel free to send me an email and I'll pass along her number and you can inquire and talk with her as I'm sure she would appreciate hearing from you. |

I Spoke with Jean McKay, Greg's longtime companion today. I am helping her with the obituary for the Roanoke Times. Obituaries cost $2.86 per line and an additional $40.00 for pictures.
As you know Jean has had many extra expenses due to Greg's accident. It would be really nice to help her out with the obituary. Please email me privately if you would like to make a contribution. Jean is planning a special celebration of Greg's life. Details will be posted soon. Jan Keister jan_k@cox.net |
