Exclamation A Terrible Accident

Neighbors-

Saturday evening 7/25 our good friend and neighbor Greg Provencher who lives on Mountain Ave was involved in a very serious motorcycle accident- He is currently in critical condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital- He does not have any family here in Roanoke except of course for Jean- Please keep him in your prayers as well as Jean- I do not have any other details at this point-

UPDATE:
I called the hospital and they could only give "condition" information so I inquired with them and they told me that Greg is now in Serious condition which I confirmed with the nurse that it is one stage above critical, so that is a little more bit of hope-

UPDATE as of Noon Today:
I called today for an update on Greg's condition and was told that because I did not have an access code it would not allow me any information regarding any patient's care in ICU. I told Russell, the nurse that I spoke with, that I understood the policy, but the neighborhood is very concerned and wants to do something for Greg and Jean as well. He assurred me that he would write down a note for Greg's nurse Nancy to have, and he would be working until 7pm tonight. If he see's Jean himself, he will personally give her a message from us all- He nor anyone else at the hospital can give any information regarding a patient in ICU unless you have an access code. I questioned why I was getting various information from other nursing staff and he very politely told me that they are only allowed to give information to folks with access codes. He was very understanding of our concerns and praised our efforts in wanting to do something for Greg- So as it stands, I have no updated information regarding his well being other than to assume that he is still in critical condition. I know yesterday I reported that he was listed in "serious" but after speaking to the nurse last night at the hospital, she told me that anyone in ICU would be considered critical- The neighbors whom I have spoken to are wanting to do something for both Greg and Jean. A fund raiser has been suggested as well as weeding and watering their garden. I will continue to keep you all updated-

I just found out about Greg's accident when Jean dropped by around mid-day. A prayer request has been sent to my church where we all believe in miracles.

The suggestion for a FUNDRAISER is a great idea and I will help any way I can. We are blessed to have Greg and Jean in OSW and OSW is a blessing to them.

Michael saw Jean at the grocery store at about 6PM today. She had just left the hospital. She told him that the bleeding in Greg's brain was slowing down, so he has improved slightly, but is still in critical condition.

Good Morning all-

I also spoke with Jean last night- Although it is true that Greg is still in a comatose state, according to Jean the bleeding on his brain has "lessened" - Jean stated that the doctors are starting to decrease the medications that would keep him in this sedated condition. It's just a wait and see at this point in time. Jean stated that they (she and his family members) continue to talk to Greg as well as the nursing staff because case study shows that although individuals who are in this condition can sometimes hear, they are unable to respond.

She is trying to keep busy as she told me, and that is a good thing- Greg's daughter is carrying a lot during this time too, as she is the only member of his family that can make any legal decisions, so please keep her in your thoughts as well. Jean is very appreciative to Greg's daughter for including her on things- Greg does NOT have health insurance. I told Jean that Jan Keister has done some investigation regarding this and would be happy to relay any information that Jan can offer.

Several neighbors have expressed a desire to help out with anything at all- Jean stated that she truly appreciates the gestures, but wants folks to know that they have a long haul ahead of them and she and Greg will need people for a long period of time as time goes on- There have been several suggestions of fund raisers that could be put into place- Jean loves this idea-

A few suggestions have been:

A Breakfast (perhaps at the Gish House, and perhaps at the October 6th Yard Sale, Etc. II)
A Spaghetti Dinner-
A "Woman less" beauty contest
A Bingo game
A Fall Tour of Homes
$1 Raffel tickets for prizes-

Marla and I are working on flyers to distribute to the neighborhood, so we'll be in need of volunteers to distribute- We'll be sending it out soon to everyone-

We are also going to inquire with Neal Patel at the Sparkys (Old Southwest Market) to put a donations container at the counter with the flyer too-

Suggestions/Volunteering are all welcome-
Thanks-
Tim

If a raffle or bingo is decided upon, I could help out with a few prizes.

I've never met our neighbor but I've thought about him and his family frequently since we stopped by his house during the safety walk to leave a note. My friend lived across the street from him at one time and I remember walking over to his house to check out the renovation designs hung on the window. A great job was done on that house.
