Old Southwest To Hold 28th Annual Holiday Parlor Tour of Homes

ROANOKE, VA, November 20, 2007 - The Old Southwest Historic District will hold its 28th Annual Parlor Tour of Homes on Saturday December 1st and Sunday December 2nd. The event will run from 5:00pm – 9:00pm on Saturday, and from 1:00pm – 5:00pm on Sunday.

This annual event opens local historic homes and businesses to public viewing and will feature a total of seven properties in the historic district: four single family homes, one apartment, and two businesses.

In addition to the varied architecture represented on this year’s tour, the holiday decorations that home and business owners plan are sure to wow the crowds. One of the businesses on tour is building an elaborate display just for the event and other home and business owners are planning multiple trees and displays as well. Merry Mantles, a program in which tour homeowners get the opportunity to have one mantle professionally decorated by a local florist, is back by popular demand. Participating in this endeavor are Florabella, Floral Expressions and Memories Florist. Two homes on Walnut Avenue and one on Highland Avenue will feature decorations created by one of the sponsoring florists.

It’s not all about revelry and decorations, though. The annual Old Southwest Holiday Parlor Tour is the premier fundraising event for the neighborhood association. The revenue and goodwill generated through this event allows Old Southwest to continue to develop neighborhood enrichment programs such as assisting elderly and disabled neighbors perform maintenance on their homes, coordinating neighborhood events and beautifying the lovely Highland Park. While you enjoy strolling through the neighborhood and gathering ideas, you will actually be investing in the future of Old Southwest

Tickets are available either day of the tour at the ticket booth located in Highland Park at the corners of 5th Street SW and Washington Avenue SW in the heart of the historic district. Admission is $15 per person. Due to the nature of the event and the large number expected, we respectfully ask that alternate arrangements be made for children under the age of sixteen.
