It is with great sympathy and a heavy heart that I write you today of the passing of a dear friend, phenomenal realtor and business woman, and an all around great neighbor here in Old Southwest, Barbara Delaney. For all that knew Barbara she was a person of vast knowledge and expertise in her line of work as a realtor, and also a great friend and pal to share a conversation with. She was a supporter of Old Southwest and promoted it whenever given the opportunity to whoever would listen. Barbara and family have called 528 Woods Avenue home here in Old Southwest. Barbara will be greatly missed by those that had the opportunity of knowing her.
I read this poem today and thought I would share it with you all... Please find comfort in its words... Rose Beyond the Wall by A.L. Frink A rose once grew where all could see, sheltered beside a garden wall, And as the days passed swiftly by, it spread its branches, straight and tall... One day, a beam of light shone through a crevice that had opened wide ~ The rose bent gently toward its warmth then passed beyond to the other side Now, you who deeply feel its loss, be comforted ~ the rose blooms there ~ its beauty even greater now, nurtured by God's own loving care. Sincerely, Jeffrey Campbell President, Old Southwest Inc. |

Tuesday September 1st beginning at 4pm at the Gish House Celebration of Life in honor of Barbara with Wine and Cheese- Everyone attending is requested to bring their favorite bottle of wine and an appetizer to be shared with everyone. Barbara did not want a funeral service but wanted a celebration to take place. They are hoping for a large turnout in her honor, as Barbara would have liked. please pass along this information. Rick is doing his best, but is in shock as can be expected. Barbara's mother who is 91 is doing rather well considering.Barbara has donated her body to science research. The Roanoke Valley Assocication of Realtors is working on setting up a educational fund in honor of Barbara- Donatations can be sent to Park Place Realtors, Inc. C/O. Barbara Delaney and these funds will be forwarded. In lieu of flowers money is being accepted which will go towards mounting bills- All money recieved will go directly to Rick to pay for these expenses.
