Hi everybody!
Hopefully everybody knows that our float for the St. Patricks day parade won this year's award for best overall. Well, the gauntlet has been thrown down by a "rival" neighborhood that wants to topple us for next year! As such, plans are already underway to build a bigger and better float for next year's parade. What I'm asking of all OSW residents is that as you complete your home improvement projects this summer, please save any unused scrap lumber or other building materials (2x4, plywood, trim pieces, beadboard, shingles, whatever). If you let me know where they are, I'll be happy to come and pick them up for storage until the float building begins. My vision for next year's float is to build a 3-dimensional 6' replica of one of the homes in the neighborhood. Nothing too crazy, but something that will once again capture the attention of parade goers! In a perfect world, I'd like it to be modular so that we can take it apart for storage and later display at special events... Obviously it would be a large undertaking, but I think that with the help of everybody it would be possible! If you have materials to donate, please contact me either at 703-867-8679 or josh.shields@oldsouthwestinc.com. Thanks! ~Josh |

Josh-
I feel confident that Bob and I can help out with some of the supplies needed- I'd like to expand on the float (Historic House) idea too- Perhaps people in period costumes on the float- Maybe an old fashioned baby carriage being pushed along side or in tow of the float- Lets get folks together in the next few months to discuss ideas/suggestions- |

An idea to go along with Josh's float would be "Old Southwest Through the Years." Have people dressed in period outfits to walk along with the float. A couple from the 1910's, a flapper from the 20's, soldier from WWII, poodle skirts for the 50's, hippies for the 60's, disco for the seventies and possibly Dynasty shoulder pads for the 80's. What do you guys think??

Don't forget also the underlying theme of St. Patricks Day!
